Online surplus auction scheduled for May 12-16
Sale of most items will begin to close at 6 p.m. May 16,
others May 23 at 6 p.m.
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders has announced that the spring 2012 Monmouth County surplus auction will begin May 12 and continue through May 16 for all but two pieces of heavy equipment, a bailer and bail trailer. The heavy equipment items will remain active in the auction until May 23.
“The online surplus auctions continue to serve the county well,” Freeholder Gary Rich said. “It provides a greater benefit in terms of revenue and makes it easier for bidders who can monitor the sale though their computers. Plus, we get many more bidders, including some in other states.”
Surplus property from the county’s Fleet Services, Bridge Division, Buildings and Grounds, Reclamation Center and Park System plus seized and surplus property from the Prosecutor’s Office will be sold.
The auction will be conducted by Auction Liquidation Services. A full list of the auction items will be posted online at www.govauctionlistservices.com closer to the auction date. Pictures, descriptions, terms of sale and other information will be available.
Most items for sale will also be available for viewing from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, May 1, and Tuesday, May 15 at the Public Works and Engineering Complex, 250 Center St., Freehold. The heavy equipment items can be viewed at the county Reclamation Center in Tinton Falls on May 14 and 15.
Online bidding for all items will commence at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 12, and will begin to close for most items at 6 p.m. May 16. Bidding on the large items at the Reclamation Center will begin to close 6 p.m. on May 23. All Bidders must pre-register with the auctioneer at www.govauctionlistservices.com
Successful bidders will be able to pick up their item or items at 250 Center St. between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. May 17 and 18. Arrangements for the pickup of the heavy equipment items will be made by appointment by close of business on May 25.
The county has been conducting online auctions since 2007. To date, the online auctions have netted more than $2 million dollars for the county.
“In addition to broadening the bidder base, having the entire auction online eliminates weather concerns and reduces labor issues,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison the to the Department of Public Works and Engineering. “Previous surplus auctions cost taxpayers because they were held solely on the weekend, which accrued overtime expenses for setup, oversight and security.”
“We expect to have at least one additional surplus auction in the fall,” Rich said.
