Accepting a proclamation for public safety telecommunicators week are Undersheriff Robert Dawson, Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, Sheriff Shaun Golden, telecommunicators Kelly Munson and Ross Martin and supervisor Scott Nielsen. FREEHOLD, NJ –The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders has designated the third week in April as Public Safety Telecommunications Week in honor of the staff at the County’s 9-1-1 Communications Center at their workshop meeting today.

The Freeholders presented a proclamation to Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden and public safety telecommunicators Kelly Munson and Ross Martin.

“Public safety telecommunicators are the first and most critical contact our citizens have when an emergency occurs,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the County Sheriff’s Office that includes the 9-1-1 Communications Center. “The prompt response of police officers, firefighters and paramedics is critical to the protection of life and preservation of property.”

The public safety telecommunicators that staff the County’s 9-1-1 Communications Center knows all too well that emergencies can occur at anytime that require police, fire or emergency medical services to be swiftly dispatched.

“The 9-1-1 Communications Center is beneficial to all of our municipalities in the County,” said Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden. “The center is one of the most successful shared services that the County offers. It currently serves 40 towns. Those towns have cut their costs by eliminating the need to pay for police dispatchers or purchase radio equipment.”

Public safety telecommunicators are the most vital link between our police officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel. Through monitoring activities by radio, they are both providing the emergency personnel information and insuring their safety.

“The dedicated men and women of the Monmouth County 9-1-1 Communications Center play a critical role in saving lives while exhibiting compassion, understanding and professionalism 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” added Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone.

In 1991, Congress proclaimed a week in April as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, recognizing the crucial role played by public safety telecommunications personnel.
