Centenarian birthday party

Monmouth County honors residents who are 100 plus years of age

HAZLET, NJ – Monmouth County’s Office on Aging joined with Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hazlet to host the Monmouth County’s Centenarian Celebration, honoring residents aged 100 and over.

“It was great gathering to celebrate our Monmouth County centenarians,” said Freeholder John P. Curley. “To look back on everything they have experienced is amazing. They have gone though unbelievable aspects of history.”

The birthday party was held at the Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on May 2 and included a luncheon, music, gifts and a huge birthday cake.

“The energy level of the centenarians I met is incredible,” said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone. “They are an inspiration to us all and I hope to see them all at the celebration again next year.”

There were 11 centenarians in attendance: Henry Buxbaum, 103; Frances Christopher, 100; Katherine Doman, 99; Gertrude Feldon, 100; Harry Hughson, 101; Lena Musante, 103; Jerimiah O’Connor, 100; Anthony Schittina, 101; Mary Spadea, 103; Julia Talor, 101; and Ambrose LeVan, 101.

“I am so honored that I was able to share this special day with these Monmouth County residents who have reached this phenomenal milestone,” said Freeholder Deputy Direct Serena DiMaso. “It was an incredible event and all of the centenarians had a great time.”

As part of this year’s Older Americans Month in May the County will be using the theme “Unleash the Power of Age” as other activities are planned for May.

Later in the month, Regency will attempt to set the Guinness Book of World Records for the “Largest Gathering of Centenarians” at their Somerset location, Regency Jewish Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. For more information contact the Monmouth County Office on Aging.
